Terry & Sandy Swett

From coastal Georgia & Florida to Colorado & California, my early days were filled with a collaborative influence of some of our country's finest signmakers. This was back in the seventies & early eighties, when common "tools of the trade" were pounce patterns, Quills (lettering brushes) & overhead projectors. I worked my way through the ranks by digging postholes in the Georgia clay to painting billboards in Florida to eventually daring to attempt wood carved & sandblasted signs & oh yes, buying my first signmaking computer. Once I got through the initial learning curve I got rather spoiled with the efficiency of this new technology. But, if the lights go out, I still know where my brushes are.

After years of free-lancing, I married Sandy & we opened a full service sign shop with a real customer base, eventually branching out and sometimes taking our show on the road with a mobile sign shop. We'd go to large fairs and trade shows, specializing in equine events. After several years, with our children now leaving the nest, we were growing increasingly weary of those long, cold Maine winters.  Each year we would think and talk about it a little more but end up literally plowing through another winter. Well, finally in the spring of 2008, after researching many towns in North Carolina and Tennessee, Divine providence took us on a scenic drive through Lincoln County Kentucky.  The outlying areas, as pretty as anywhere we have ever seen, surrounded a freshly revitalized Main Street ( We love small town Main Streets!).  From the first drive down Stanford Kentucky's Main Street, we felt like we had found our home.  In a region rich in history and agriculture, smack in the middle of the bible belt, we have been made to feel like we have been here our whole lives.  After a diligent search with a couple of tireless realtors, we found our own piece of heaven amidst an 80 acre farm, surrounded by the rolling green hillsides of neighboring farms in an area of Stanford known as Chicken Bristle (what a name, eh?).  Aside from missing our children, who mostly remain in New England, we are thrilled to live here.

Our livelihood has indeed evolved.  Starting off in a small northern town, raising children and building a trusting customer base, we moved on, leaving our customers in the capable and caring hands of our daughter and her husband who own and operate their own sign shop in Bridgton, Maine.  We continue to build and serve our customer base online and in our new town.  Our mobile sign shop doesn't travel as far or often as it once did, but we may still be found, occasionally, at a local street festival or a major equestrian event.  With the help of some local resources and fabricators, we have been able to add dimensional, carved and sandblasted signage back into our regular offerings.  We make magnetic truck signs, vinyl truck lettering, house and farm signs, contractor job site signs and banners.  We service customers locally as well as remotely via this website. We ship anywhere.

Sandy started off as an extra set of eyes & just being my star promoter. Relentlessly striving for the sensibly creative dynamics of a great looking sign...she watched. Yes, she watched & she listened & she taught me to look at things from a different perspective. Together, as we continue to fine tune this thing we do, I'm proud to know that Sandy's willingness to blend & be an extension of my creativity has helped her become a respectable designer in her own right.
